PowerProtect Data Manager 19.17 Storage Array User Guide

Add a PowerStore asset source

Perform the following steps to add the PowerStore management server as an asset source to discover and protect PowerStore storage array assets.

Prerequisites

To perform backups and snapshots from a replica storage array, ensure that you add and discover the replica array in PowerProtect Data Manager.

NOTE:You must add and discover the replica array first before you add and discover the primary array. During either scheduled or manual discovery, PowerProtect Data Manager checks whether any replica assets are available. If replica assets are found, PowerProtect Data Manager creates a relationship between the primary and replica assets.

About this task

NOTE:

Multi-appliance clusters are only supported for PowerStore versions 3.5 and later. Ensure that all appliances in the cluster are running a compatible version. For the most up-to-date compatibility information, see the E-Lab Navigator.

If the appliances within the cluster are different models, only one of the model numbers is shown in the PowerProtect Data Manager UI.

Steps

  1. Log in to the PowerProtect Data Manager user interface as a user with the Administrator role.
  2. From the left navigation pane, select Infrastructure > Asset Sources.
    The Asset Sources window appears.
  3. Click the PowerStore tab.
The list of configured storage array assets appears.
  4. Click Add.
The Add PowerStore wizard opens and presents the applicable fields.
  5. Complete the following fields:
Table 1. Asset source required fieldsAdd PowerStore wizard asset source required fields
    Field Description
Name Type a descriptive name for the storage array.
Address Type the hostname or IP address for the source PowerStore cluster.
Port Type the port number for HTTPS REST API access to the appliance. The default port is 443.
Credentials Select an existing set of management credentials. Alternatively, you can select Add Credentials, provide new credentials, and then click Save.
    Asset Type

Select NAS to add a NAS asset type for the storage array.

Select PowerStore Block to add a PowerStore block volume asset type for the storage array.

You can add both NAS and PowerStore block volume asset types for the storage array.

NOTE:Block volumes are not supported for PowerStore storage array versions 3.0 and earlier.
  6. By default, discovery happens automatically after you add the asset source and subsequent discoveries are either manual or scheduled. To schedule a full discovery at a certain time every day, select Schedule Discovery, and then specify a time.

If discovery is not scheduled, automatic discovery runs every 30 minutes.

For scheduling separate discoveries of the NAS share or credential changes, go to Infrastucture > Asset Sources, select the share in the NAS tab, and click Edit.

  7. If the SSL certificate cannot be trusted automatically, a dialog box appears to request certificate approval. Review the certificate, and then click Verify.
  8. Click Save.
The storage array appears as an entry in a table on the Asset Sources window.

After you add the storage array, PowerProtect Data Manager starts a discovery in the background. Subsequent discoveries depend on the settings that you chose. You can always do an on-demand discovery.

  9. From the left navigation pane, select Infrastructure > Assets.
    The Assets window appears.
  10. Select the PowerStore Block tab.
After a successful discovery, the storage array assets that are discovered from the PowerStore system appear.
