PowerProtect Data Manager 19.17 Storage Array User Guide

Add pre-scripts and post-scripts for block volume protection

Before using a pre-script or post-script with a backup, you must add the script to the PowerProtect Data Manager server. The PowerProtect Data Manager UI provides the options to add, edit, delete, and download a script.

About this task

To manually add or upload a pre-script or post-script, perform the following steps.

Steps

  1. In the PowerProtect Data Manager UI, select Protection > Scripts.
    The Scripts page appears.
  2. On the Scripts page, add or upload a script:
    • To manually add a script, click Add and then go to the next step.
    • To upload a script, click Upload. When uploaded, the script text appears in the text box.
  3. On the Add Script page, complete the following settings:
    • Name—Type the script file name.
    • Type—Select Pre or Post as appropriate.
    • Compatibility—Select Windows or Unix as appropriate.
    • Description—Optionally, type a description of the script.
    • Script—Add the script text in the text box, or copy and paste the script text directly into the text box, and click edit script icon to revise the script text. If you uploaded the script, the text should already appear in the text box. For Meditech scripts, the exact text of the script is provided in the whitepaper "Protecting MEDITECH data with Dell PowerProtect Data Manager", available from the Dell Support Site.

NOTE:Replacing an original script also updates any associated protection policies with the revised script.
    • Script Parameters—Optionally, click Add Parameter to add parameters specific to the application type (for example, Epic, MEDITECH), and then specify the parameter name, data type, alias and default value. Values for storage array parameters can be modified during the asset group configuration, which is performed from the group view of the Infrastructure > Assets window. Parameters can be used for actions such as shutting down the database or putting the database into quiesced state.
NOTE:Script parameters are only supported for PowerStore and PowerMax block volume assets, and will not be applied to other asset types.
  4. When finished adding scripts, click Save.

Next steps

For storage arrays, enable the pre-script and post-script at the asset group level before adding the asset group to a protection policy. Go to Infrastructure > Assets > PowerStore Block Volume or PowerMax Block Volume, select group view icon for asset groups to switch to the group view, and then click Add. The Add Asset Groups wizard appears, which includes the Options > Pre/Post Script page. The section "Associate pre-scripts and post-scripts with a storage group" provides more information.
