MEDITECH data protection with PowerProtect Data Manager
PowerProtect Data Manager integrates with the MEDITECH Backup Facilitator (MBF). This instructs the MEDITECH Backup Intermediary (MBI) to quiesce the application on the MEDITECH File Servers that are provisioned with PowerStore block volumes. PowerProtect Data Manager then initiates the simultaneous snapshot for the PowerStore block volumes and sends the application-consistent data to DD storage.
Prerequisites for performing MEDITECH data backup
NOTE:The whitepaper
Protecting MEDITECH data with Dell PowerProtect Data Manager, available on the
PowerProtect Data Manager Info Hub, provides more information about how to protect MEDITECH data with
PowerProtect Data Manager.
Review the following requirements when protecting MEDITECH data for PowerStore:
- Verify that the PowerStore array is supported with PowerProtect Data Manager. Software compatibility information for the PowerProtect Data Manager software is provided by the E-Lab Navigator.
- Integrate the PowerProtect DD system as protection storage and verify that all PowerStore nodes can communicate with the DD system for management and data transfer.
- Verify LAN prerequisites for component connectivity (PowerStore system, DD system, PowerProtect Data Manager, application host).
- Verify that all LAN connections are available (TCP ports opened, VLAN is configured).
- Add data VLAN into PowerProtect Data Manager if you plan to separate management and data traffic (between PowerStore, PowerProtect Data Manager, and DD system). Note that VLAN separation of management and data traffic on the PowerStore level is mandatory.
- Configure the MBI servers and MBF host, and test communication using MBF64.exe (census/quiesce/unquiesce).
- Add the MBF64.exe location to the system PATH on the MBF host if the path is not set in the pre/post-scripts.
MEDITECH data backup workflow
The following steps provide a high-level workflow for MEDITECH data protection in PowerProtect Data Manager:
- Enable the PowerStore asset source in the PowerProtect Data Manager UI.
- Add and integrate PowerStore arrays with PowerProtect Data Manager and discover the block volumes that are provisioned for the MEDITECH file servers.
- Install the File System agent on the Windows MBF host.
- Add and upload the MEDITECH pre/post-scripts to the PowerProtect Data Manager server and create a credential for the MEDITECH application in the PowerProtect Data Manager UI.
- Create an asset group for the block volumes that are mapped to the MEDITECH file system servers. Assign the pre/post-scripts to the asset group along with parameter values.
- Create a block-level protection policy and add the asset group as assets to perform application-consistent snapshot or backup of PowerStore volumes.
