PowerProtect Data Manager 19.17 Storage Array User Guide
Modifying parameters used during PowerMax backup and restore operations
Some parameters, such as the name of the storage group that is zoned to the ESXi host, can be changed by modifying the sdmng service application.yml configuration file. This file is located at /usr/local/brs/lib/sdmng/config/application.yml
PowerProtect Data Manager and PowerMax customization settings
The following table lists the settings that you can configure for protection and restore of PowerMax block assets.
| Setting name | Default value | Description | Expected value |
|---|---|---|---|
| PPDM_BV_PROXY_SG | PPDM_BV_PROXY_SG | Name of the storage group on the PowerMax array which is zoned to the ESXi hosts on which block volume protection engines are deployed. | String values |
| PPDM_WSG_PREFIX | PPDM_WSG | Prefix of the storage group used by PowerProtect Data Manager to create and maintain the linked volumes during restore operation. | String values |
| DISCOVER_REMOTE_ARRAY | false | Setting it to true allows discovery of remote arrays that are configured in the Unisphere for PowerMax. | true/false |
| ENABLE_TARGET_ASSET_DISCOVERY | true | Discovers the storage group to get the volume details during protection. | true/false |
| FULL BACKUP > USE_ALLOCATION_MAP | true | Uses PowerMax allocation bitmap to retrieve the allocated blocks during full backup. Setting it to false copies both allocated and unallocated blocks from the volumes to protection storage. | true/false |
| FULL BACKUP > USE_DSP | true | Distributed segment processing is turned on by default while creating a full backup of the PowerMax block volume asset. | true/false |
| INCREMENTAL_BACKUP > USE_DSP | false | Distributed segment processing is turned off by default while creating an incremental backup of the PowerMax block volume asset. | true/false |
Modifying parameters for the required settings
- Log in to the PowerProtect Data Manager console as an admin user.
- Edit the file /usr/local/brs/lib/sdmng/config/application.yml to modify the values for the required settings.
- Restart the sdmng service using the sdmng restart command once the changes are saved in the application.yml file.
NOTE:Back up the
application.yml file to another host in order to save your changes during the update process. Otherwise, the update process overwrites the file. Restore the configuration file post-update. Restart sdmng service using the
sdmng restart command once the file changes are complete.
