Select a protection policy purpose
Select from the list of supported purposes.
Steps
On the
Purpose page, select one of the following options to indicate the purpose of the new protection policy group, and then click
Next:
- Crash Consistent and/or Application Consistent—For crash-consistent policies, PowerProtect Data Manager create a crash-consistent backup of the block volume data to the storage target of the block volume data on the storage target. For application-consistent policies, assets are protected in asset groups, with scripts enabled. A protection policy can include both crash-consistent asset protection, and application-consistent asset group protection.
- Exclusion—Assigns specific assets to an exclusion policy and marks them as intentionally exempt from data protection operations so that these assets do not display as Unprotected. PowerProtect Data Manager also restricts the specified assets from being assigned to other protection policies.
Results
When the protection policy is Crash Consistent and/or Application Consistent, the wizard moves to the Asset Groups page, from which you can select application-consistent asset groups with scripts enabled, if required. Continue to Select protection policy asset groups
When the protection policy is Exclusion, the wizard moves to the Assets page. Continue to Select protection policy assets.
