PowerProtect Data Manager 19.17 Storage Array User Guide
Storage array limitations
Review the following limitations that apply to PowerStore and PowerMax storage arrays:
Register DD storage using data network IP address instead of management network
For PowerMax backup and restore jobs, DD storage must be registered in PowerProtect Data Manager using the data network IP address instead of the management network.
PowerMax Server DR functionality limited to Server DR backups of completed copies
Server DR functionality for PowerMax is limited to Server DR backups of completed copies. Once a Server DR restore is completed, copies that are created after the Server DR backup are not available.
Jobs that do not complete successfully cannot be restarted
Jobs that do not complete successfully or are canceled cannot be restarted from the Jobs window. For incomplete jobs, run Protect Now from the window, or wait for the next scheduled backup.
Reported value calculation in PowerStore Job statistics report
If a backup is taken within one hour of the previous backup, the job statistics may report the cumulative value from the previous backup. This limitation applies to PowerStore versions 3.5.x.x.
Unsupported PowerStore volume restores
Restores of an individual volume from a volume group backup are not supported for PowerStore.
PowerStore Instant Access restore limitations
Instant Access is not supported from a replicated backup copy. Instant Access is only supported for a remote snapshot or backup from the same storage unit where it was backed up originally.
Instant Access is not supported when other backups and restores are in progress.
Instant Access is supported for all block resources except VMware VMFS datastores.
PowerMax restore to alternate overwrites possible due to parent and child storage group configurations
The contents in the original storage group can be overwritten if the restore destination is a parent storage group of the selected asset.
For example, if the storage group is a parent storage group with child storage groups, and an individual child storage group of the parent is protected, then a restore to alternate automatically hides the child storage group from view because you cannot restore to the same storage group. However, the parent storage group is still visible, so you can select the parent as the destination for the restore, which might result in automatically overwriting the child storage group.
Before performing the restore, verify that the storage group protection level will not result in overwriting the contents.
Storage group size might be reported incorrectly in the PowerProtect Data Manager UI due to differences in the REST API calculation
Previously, the REST API call for storage group capacity looked up the capacity of all volumes in the storage group to calculate the capacity to two decimal places. The new REST API call, however, obtains the capacity information directly from the output of the storage group lookup Solutions Enabler call, and only reports the capacity to one decimal place. As a result, any storage group capacity that is under 0.1 GB will be reported as 0 in the PowerProtect Data Manager UI.
