PowerProtect Data Manager 19.17 Storage Array User Guide

Supported protection policy purposes

These points provide generalized descriptions of PowerProtect Data Manager behavior. The different asset types prescribe asset-specific actions and conditions for each purpose:

  • Crash Consistent and/or Application Consistent—For crash-consistent policies, PowerProtect Data Manager create a crash-consistent backup of the block volume data to the storage target of the block volume data on the storage target. For application-consistent policies, assets are protected in asset groups, with scripts enabled. A protection policy can include both crash-consistent asset protection, and application-consistent asset group protection.
  • Exclusion—Assigns specific assets to an exclusion policy and marks them as intentionally exempt from data protection operations so that these assets do not display as Unprotected. PowerProtect Data Manager also restricts the specified assets from being assigned to other protection policies.
