Install iDRAC Service Module

The iDRAC Service Module (iSM) can be installed on any of the following operating systems:

  • Microsoft Windows
  • Linux
  • VMware ESXi

For the list of operating systems that are supported on iSM, see Supported operating systems.

To check the iSM running status on Microsoft Windows operating systems, run the following command: 

<iSM install path>/shared/bin/dcismcfg.exe --getismstatus/-g

To check the iSM running status on Linux operating systems, run the following command: 

<iSM install path>/bin/dcismcfg --getismstatus/-g
To check the iSM running status on VMware ESXi 8.0 operating system, run the following command: 
esxcli dell ism config  --getismstatus/-g
NOTE From iSM version 4.x.x.x onwards, the default USB NIC IP address set by iSM is 169.254.1.1.
NOTE During the installation of iSM, the OS to iDRAC Pass-through channel is enabled in USB NIC mode. Use any of the iDRAC interfaces to modify the OS to iDRAC Pass-through configuration. However, if the OS to iDRAC Pass-through state is set to Disabled, then the iSM features that depend on the USB NIC will not be functional.
