Removing the system board
Prerequisites
CAUTION: The information in this section is intended for authorized service technicians only.
- Follow the procedure in Before working inside your computer.
- Remove the base cover.
- Remove the heat sink for computers shipped with a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2050 graphics card or heat sink for computers shipped without a discrete graphics card, whichever applicable.
- Remove the M.2 2230 solid-state drive or M.2 2280 solid-state drive, whichever applicable.
- Remove the wireless card.
About this task
NOTE: Before removing the base cover, ensure that there is no SD card installed in the SD card slot on your computer.
NOTE: The system board can be removed and installed along with the heat sink, when you replace the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. This simplifies the removal and installation procedure and also prevents damage to the thermal bond between the system board and heat sink.

Steps
- Remove the three screws (M2.5x5) that secure the right display hinge to the system board.
- Open the right display hinge at an angle of 90 degrees.
- Remove the two screws (M2x4) that secure the USB-C bracket to the system board.
- Lift the USB-C bracket off the system board.
- Peel the tape that secures the display-cable connector latch to the system board.
- Open the latch and disconnect the display cable from the system board.
- Peel the tapes that secure the power-adapter port cable to the system board.
- Disconnect the power-adapter port cable from the system board.
- Peel the tapes that secure the I/O board cable to the system board.
- Open the latch and disconnect the I/O board cable to the system board.
- Disconnect the battery cable from the system board.
- Open the latch and disconnect the keyboard cable from the system board.
- Open the latch and disconnect the touchpad cable from the system board.
- Disconnect the keyboard-backlight cable from the system board.
- Disconnect the fan cable from the system board.
- Remove the two screws (M2x1.8) that secure the system board to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
- Lift the system board at angle off the palm-rest and keyboard assembly, to clear the ports from the port openings.
