Installing the system board
CAUTION:The information in this section is intended for authorized service technicians only.
Prerequisites
If you are replacing a component, remove the existing component before performing the installation procedure.
About this task
The following image indicates the connectors on your system board.

- Fan-cable connector
- Coin-cell battery
- Memory-module slots
- Speaker-cable connector
- Microphone-module cable connector
- Media-card reader cable connector
- Wireless-card slot
- Power-button board cable connector
- Display-cable connector
- Backlight-cable connector
- Camera-cable connector
- Solid-state drive slot
- Hard-disk drive connector
- Touchscreen-cable connector (optional)
The following image indicates the location of the system board and provides a visual representation of the installation procedure.


Steps
- Place the system board on the display-assembly base.
- Align the screw holes on the system board with the screw holes on the display-assembly base.
- Replace the six screws (M3x5) that secure the system board to the display-assembly base.
- Replace the solid-state drive screw mount (M3x4) that secures the system board to the display-assembly base.
- Connect the display cable to the system board and close the latch to secure the cable.
- Connect the power-button board cable to the system board and close the latch to secure the cable.
- Connect the media-card reader cable to the system board and close the latch to secure the cable.
- Connect the microphone-module cable to the system board.
- Connect the speaker cable to the system board.
- Connect the fan cable to the system board.
- Connect the backlight cable to the system board.
- Connect the camera cable to the system board.
- Connect the touchscreen cable to the system board.
NOTE:This cable is only available on computers that support the touch option.
Next steps
- Install the integrated heat sink or discrete heat sink.
- Install the M.2 2230 solid-state drive or M.2 2280 solid-state drive, as applicable.
- Install the wireless card.
- Install the memory module.
- Install the system-board shield.
- Install the hard drive.
- Install the I/O cover.
- Install the back cover.
- Install the stand.

NOTE:Your computer’s Service Tag is stored in the system board. You must enter the Service Tag in the BIOS setup program after you replace the system board.NOTE:Replacing the system board removes any changes that you have made to the BIOS using the BIOS setup program. You must make the appropriate changes again after you replace the system board.
