Removing the palm-rest and keyboard assembly

Prerequisites

  1. Follow the procedure in Before working inside your computer.
  2. Remove the SIM card.
  3. Remove the SD card.
  4. Remove the base cover.
  5. Remove the battery.
  6. Remove the M.2 2230 solid-state drive.
  7. Remove the wireless card.
  8. Remove the WWAN card.
  9. Remove the power-button board.
  10. Remove the volume-control board.
  11. Remove the speakers.
  12. Remove the touchpad.
  13. Remove the fan.
  14. Remove the display assembly.
  15. Remove the system board.

About this task

NOTE:The system board can be removed and installed along with the heat sink, when replacing the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. This simplifies the removal and installation procedure and prevents damage to the thermal bond.
NOTE:The palm-rest and keyboard assembly cannot be further disassembled once all of the pre-removal parts procedures are completed. If the touchpad frame, touchpad support bracket, touchpad mylar, touchpad module, touchpad FFC, conductive tape or thermal pad are malfunctioning and need to be replaced, replace the entire palm-rest assembly.
