Removing heat sink assembly

NOTE:Depending on the configuration you order, you may see either of the heat sinks as shown in the image below.

Heat sink

  1. Follow the procedure in Before working inside your computer.
  2. Remove the:
    1. cover
    2. bezel
    3. 2.5–inch drive assembly
    4. optical drive
  3. To remove the fan duct:
    1. Pry the retention clips in opposite directions [1].
    2. Lift and remove the fan duct from the computer [2].

  4. To remove the heat sink assembly:
    1. Disconnect the heat sink assembly cable from the system board [1].
    2. Loosen the captive screws that secure the heat sink assembly [2] and lift it away from the computer [3].
