Removing the optical drive

NOTE:Depending on the configuration you order, you may see either of the heat sinks as shown in the image below.

Heat sink

  1. Follow the procedure in Before working inside your computer.
  2. Remove the:
    1. cover
    2. bezel
    3. 2.5–inch drive assembly
  3. To release the optical drive module:
    1. Unthread the cables through the retention clip [1].
    2. Pull the blue tab to unlock the optical drive module [2].

  4. To remove the optical drive module:
    1. Lift the tab upward to release the module [1].
    2. Holding the tab, disconnect the optical drive cables [2].
    3. Slide and lift the optical drive module away from the computer [3].

  5. To remove the optical drive:
    1. Slide the tab to release the optical drive [1].
    2. Push the optical drive away from the module [2][3].
