Installing the processor
Prerequisites
- Follow the safety guidelines listed in the Safety instructions.
- Follow the procedure listed in Before working inside your system.
- Remove air shroud.
- Remove the heatsink.
Steps
- Align the pin 1 indicator of the processor with the triangle on the socket and place the processor on the socket.
NOTE:Positioning the processor incorrectly can permanently damage the system board or the processor. Be careful not to bend the pins in the socket.
- Lower the socket lever and push it under the tab to lock it.
NOTE:If the processor has previously been used in a system, remove any remaining thermal grease from the processor by using a lint-free cloth.NOTE:The numbers on the image do not depict the exact steps. The numbers are for representation of sequence.

- If you are using an existing heat sink, remove the thermal grease from the heat sink by using a clean lint-free cloth.
- Apply the thermal grease in a thin spiral design on top of the processor.
CAUTION:Applying too much thermal grease can result in excess grease coming in contact with and contaminating the processor socket.NOTE:The thermal grease syringe is intended for single use only. Dispose the syringe after you use it.

NOTE: Ensure that you install the heat sink after you install the processor. The heat sink is necessary to maintain proper thermal conditions.
