Installing the system board

Prerequisites

  1. Follow the safety guidelines listed in Safety instructions.
  2. Follow the procedure listed in Before working on your system
  3. Remove the following:
    1. System cover.
    2. Air shroud.
    3. Memory modules.
    4. Processor.
    5. Heatsink.
    6. Expansion card riser (if installed).
    7. Internal PERC card or Front PERC riser (if installed).

Steps

  1. Unpack the new system board.
    CAUTION: Do not lift the system board by holding a memory module, processor, or other components.
  2. Holding the system board holder lower the system board in to the chassis.
  3. Incline the system board at an angle, align the connectors with the slots on the rear of the system and push the system board till firmly seated.
  4. Install and tighten the eight screws to secure the system board in place,

Next steps

  1. Replace the following:
    1. Trusted Platform Module (TPM).
    2. Internal Perc card or Front PERC riser.
    3. Expansion card riser.
    4. Processor (if removed).
    5. Heatsink (if removed).
    6. Memory modules (if installed).
  2. Reconnect all cables to the system board.
    NOTE:Ensure that the cables inside the system are routed along the chassis wall and secured using the cable securing bracket.
  3. Install the air shroud.
  4. Install the system cover.
  5. Ensure that you perform the following steps:
    1. Use the Easy Restore feature to restore the Service Tag. See the Restoring the system by using the Easy Restore feature section.
    2. If the service tag is not backed up in the backup flash device, enter the system service tag manually. See the Manually update the Service Tag by using System Setup section.
    3. Install BIOS and iDRAC version updates, Diagnostics, and OS Driver Pack and OS Collector.
    4. Re-enable the Trusted Platform Module (TPM). See the Upgrading the Trusted Platform Module section.
  6. Follow the procedure listed in After working inside your system.
