Installing expansion card into expansion card riser
Prerequisites
- Follow the safety guidelines listed in Safety instructions.
- Follow the procedure listed in Before working inside your system.
- If installing
a new expansion card, unpack it and prepare the card for installation. NOTE:For instructions, see the documentation accompanying the card.
Steps
- If installed, remove the filler bracket.NOTE:Store the filler bracket for future use. Filler brackets must be installed in empty expansion card slots to maintain Federal Communications Commission (FCC) certification of the system. The brackets also keep dust and dirt out of the system and aid in proper cooling and airflow inside the system.
- Holding the expansion card by its edges, position the card so that the connector on the card aligns with the connector on the riser.
- Insert the connector on the card into the connector on the riser until the card is fully seated.
- Slide the PCIe retention bracket down to hold the card in place.NOTE:This step is applicable only if you are installing the expansion cards in the slots 12 and 13 of Riser 3 (IO_RISER3) and slots 9 and 10 of Riser 2(IO_RISER2).
- Close the PCIe card latch.
