Removing the expansion card from expansion card riser
Prerequisites
- Follow the safety guidelines listed in Safety instructions.
- Follow the procedure listed in Before working inside your system.
- Disconnect the cables from the expansion card.
- Remove the expansion card riser.
Steps
- Press the black tab on the expansion card riser and slide the PCIe retention bracket up.NOTE:This step is applicable only if you are removing the expansion cards from the slots 12 and 13 of Riser 3 (IO_RISER3) and slots 9 and 10 of Riser 2 (IO_RISER2).
- Lift the PCIe card latch.
- Hold the expansion card by its edges, and lift the card out until the
connector on the card disconnects from the connector on
the riser.

Next steps
- Install the expansion card into expansion card riser.
- If you are removing the card permanently, install
a metal filler bracket over the empty expansion slot opening and lower the PCIe card latch to lock the bracket in place.NOTE:You must install a filler bracket over an empty expansion card slot to maintain Federal Communications Commission (FCC) certification of the system. The brackets also keep dust and dirt out of the system and aid in proper cooling and airflow inside the system.
