Replacing system battery
Prerequisites
NOTE:There is a danger of a new battery exploding if it is incorrectly installed. Replace the battery only with the same or equivalent type recommended by the manufacturer. For more information, see the safety information that is shipped with you system.
- Follow the safety guidelines listed in Safety instructions.
- Follow the procedure listed in Before working inside your system.
- Remove the air shroud.
- If applicable, disconnect the power or data cables from expansion card(s).
- If installed, remove the expansion card risers.
- If installed, remove the PEM.
Steps
- Locate the battery socket. For
more information on locating the system battery, see the System board jumpers and connectors section.CAUTION:To avoid damage to the battery connector, you must firmly support the connector while installing or removing a battery.
- Use a plastic scribe to pry out the system battery as shown in the
illustration below.

- To install a new system battery, hold the battery with the positive side facing up and slide it under the securing tabs.
- Press the battery into the connector until it snaps into place.

Next steps
- If removed, install the PEM.
- If removed, install the expansion card risers.
- If applicable, connect the cables to the expansion card(s).
- Install the air shroud.
- Follow the procedure listed in After working inside your system.
- While booting, press F2 to enter the System Setup and ensure that the battery is operating properly.
- Enter the correct time and date in the System Setup Time and Date fields.
- Exit the System Setup.
