Installing an expansion card into the PCIe Switch Baseboard (PSBB) module

Prerequisites

  1. Follow the safety guidelines listed in the Safety instructions.
  2. Follow the procedure listed in Before working inside your system.
  3. Remove the rear support bracket.
  4. Remove the air shroud.
  5. Remove the cooling fans.
  6. Remove the cooling fan assembly.
  7. Disconnect the backplane cables.
  8. Disconnect the GPU fan cables that are connected to the GPU fan board.
  9. Remove the GPU fan board.
  10. Remove the GPU fans.
  11. Remove the GPU fan cage.
  12. Removing the side brackets.
  13. Sliding out the drive cage .

Steps

  1. Rotate the PSBB retention latch upward to unlock.
  2. If installed, remove the filler bracket.
    NOTE:Store the filler bracket for future use. Filler brackets must be installed in empty expansion card slots to maintain Federal Communications Commission (FCC) certification of the system. The brackets also keep dust and dirt out of the system and aid in proper cooling and airflow inside the system.

  3. Hold the card by edges, and align the card with the connector on the riser.
  4. Insert the card firmly into the PSBB module connector until seated and close the card retention latch.

Next steps

  1. Connect the cables to the PSB module from the system board.
  2. Slide in the drive cage.
  3. Install the side brackets.
  4. Install the GPU fan cage.
  5. Install the GPU fans.
  6. Install the GPU fan board.
  7. Reconnect the GPU fan cables onto the GPU fan board.
  8. Connect the drive backplane cables to the connectors on the system board and backplane.
  9. Install the cooling fan assembly.
  10. Install the CPU cooling fan.
  11. Install the air shroud.
  12. Install the rear support bracket.
  13. Follow the procedure listed in After working inside your system.
  14. Install any device drivers required for the card as described in the documentation for the card.
