The VxRail 2-node cluster with VMware vSAN has witness virtual appliance requirements.
The following requirements apply to the VMware vSAN witness host for a VxRail
2-node VMware vSAN cluster:
VMware supports both a physical VMware ESXi host or
the VMware vSAN witness appliance (VM).
The witness appliance does not require additional
licensing.
The witness appliance must be hosted on a VMware vSphere environment.
In VxRail 7.0.132 and later, the witness can be
shared with up to 64 2-node VMware vSAN clusters.
The witness appliance running on the VD-4000w sled
cannot be shared with other 2-node clusters.
The witness appliance running on the VD-4000w, the
VD-4000w node, and the two compute nodes use a single management network.
The witness appliance on the VD-4000w and the two compute nodes use a single
witness traffic network. This allows direct connection between the compute nodes
for VMware vSAN and VMware vSphere vMotion traffic where high-speed switches are
not available.
