For VxRail 8.0.210 and later, you can deploy VxRail with IPv6 and Dual
Stack, in addition to IPv4. For VxRail 8.0.320 with VMware vSAN OSA, IPv6 and IPv6 dual
stack is supported.
The following table provides the supported IP addressing option for VxRail versions:
Table 1. IP addressing for VxRailIP addressing for VxRail
VxRail versions
Supported IP addressing
VxRail versions earlier than 8.0.210
Single-stack IPv4
VxRail 8.0.210 and later
Single-stack IPv4
Single-stack IPv6
Dual-stack IPv4/IPv6
The option to use with VxRail impacts the data center preparations and how the VxRail cluster is deployed.
If you deploy VxRail using single-stack IPv4:
Reserve IPv4 addresses on all VxRail networks.
Verify that connectivity to data center services and external services supports IPv4.
If you deploy VxRail using single-stack IPv6 :
Reserve IPv6 addresses on all VxRail networks.
Verify that connectivity to data center services and external services supports IPv6.
If you deploy VxRail using dual-stack IPv4/IPv6:
Reserve IPv4 and IPv6 addresses for the VxRail external management network.
Verify that connectivity to required data center services (DNS, NTP) supports IPv4 and IPv6.
Verify that connectivity to data center services (DNS, NTP) supports IPv4 or IPv6.
External connectivity can be either IPv4 or IPv6.
