Single-stack and dual-stack network considerations for VxRail

You can deploy VxRail using IPv4 or IPv6 in a single-stack network scheme or in a dual-stack network. There are fewer rules in a single-stack VxRail deployment since the networking reserved for VxRail is in an IPv4 or IPv6 format.

If VxRail is deployed using dual-stack, configure the following:

  • The VxRail External Management Network with both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses.
  • The VMware vCenter Server instance supporting the VxRail cluster with both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses.
  • VxRail Manager with both IPv4 and IPv6 IP addresses.
  • The VMware ESXi management network for each VxRail node with IPv4 and IPv6 IP addresses.
  • The VMware vSAN network as either dual-stack or single-stack.
  • The VMware vSphere vMotion network as dual-stack or single-stack.
  • The iDRAC network supporting VxRail node hardware management access as dual-stack or single-stack .
