Installing the heat-sink assembly - for computers shipped with discrete graphics card

CAUTION:The information in this installation section is intended for authorized service technicians only.

Prerequisites

If you are replacing a component, remove the existing component before performing the installation process.

About this task

NOTE:If either the system board or the heat-sink assembly is replaced, use the thermal grease that is provided in the kit to ensure that the thermal conductivity is achieved.
The following images indicate the location of the heat-sink assembly and provide a visual representation of the installation procedure.

Steps

  1. Align and place the heat-sink assembly on the palm-rest assembly.
  2. In sequential order (1>2>3>4>5) as indicated on the heat-sink assembly, tighten the five captive screws that secure the heat-sink assembly to the system board.
  3. Align the screw holes of the heat-sink assembly with the screw holes of the system board.
  4. Replace the four screws (M1.6x3) that secure the left and right fans to the palm-rest assembly.
  5. Connect the left fan cable (JFAN1) and right fan cable (JFAN2) to the system board.
