Removing the power button with fingerprint reader

CAUTION:The information in this removal section is intended for authorized service technicians only.

Prerequisites

  1. Follow the procedure in Before working inside your computer.
  2. Remove the base cover.
  3. Remove the M.2 2230 solid-state drive or M.2 2280 solid-state drive from the M.2 SSD slot, whichever is applicable.
  4. Remove the battery.
  5. Remove the system board.
    NOTE:The system board can be removed with the heat sink attached.

Steps

  1. Remove the four screws (M1.4x2) that secure the power-button bracket to the palm-rest assembly.
  2. Lift the power-button bracket off the palm-rest assembly.
  3. Peel the power-button and fingerprint-reader cable from the top of the palm-rest assembly.
  4. Flip the palm-rest assembly over. Unthread the power-button and fingerprint-reader cable through the opening on the palm-rest assembly, and remove the power button with fingerprint reader.
