Installing the system board

CAUTION:The information in this installation section is intended for authorized service technicians only.

Prerequisites

If you are replacing a component, remove the existing component before performing the installation process.

About this task

The following image indicates the connectors and components on your system board.

  1. Touch function row cable connector (JTF1)
  2. Display-assembly cable connector (JEDP1)
  3. Integrated wireless card cable connector
  4. Left-fan cable connector (JFAN2)
  5. Left-speaker cable connector (JSPK2)
  6. Haptic-module cable connector (JTP1)
  7. Battery cable connector (BATT)
  8. M.2 solid-state drive slot
  9. Keyboard-control board cable connector (JIO1)
  10. Right-speaker cable connector (JSPK1)
  11. Right-fan cable connector (JFAN1)
  12. Power-button and fingerprint-reader cable connector (JFP1)

The following images indicate the location of the system board and provide a visual representation of the installation procedure.

Steps

  1. Using the alignment posts, align the screw holes on the system board with the screw holes on the palm-rest assembly.
  2. Place the system board on the palm-rest assembly.
  3. Replace the 11 screws (M1.6x3.5) that secure the system board to the palm-rest assembly.
  4. Connect the right-speaker cable to the right-speaker cable connector (JSPK1) on the system board.
  5. Connect the haptic-module cable to the haptic-module cable connector (JTP1) on the system board and close the latch to secure the cable.
  6. Connect the keyboard control-board cable to the keyboard control-board connector (JIO1) on the system board and close the latch to secure the cable.
  7. Connect the left-speaker cable to the left-speaker cable connector (JSPK2) on the system board.
  8. Connect the power-button and fingerprint-reader cable to the power-button and fingerprint-reader cable connector (JFP1) on the system board and close the latch to secure the cable.
  9. Connect the antenna cables to the wireless module.
  10. Align and place the wireless-module bracket on the system board.
  11. Tighten the captive screw that secures the wireless-module bracket to the system board.
    NOTE:Ensure that the small, clear washer that holds the captive screw in place does not fall.
  12. Connect the capacitive touch-panel cable to the capacitive touch-panel connector (JTF1) on the system board.

Next steps

  1. Install the heat-sink assembly - for computers shipped with integrated graphics card or heat-sink assembly - for computers shipped with discrete graphics card, whichever is applicable.
  2. Install the display assembly.
  3. Install the battery.
  4. Install the M.2 2230 solid-state drive or M.2 2280 solid-state drive from the M.2 SSD slot, whichever is applicable.
  5. Install the base cover.
  6. Follow the procedure in After working inside your computer.
