Installing the M.2 2280 solid-state drive (SSD)

Prerequisites

If you are replacing a component, remove the existing component before performing the installation process.

About this task

NOTE:Depending on the configuration ordered, your computer may support an M.2 2230 SSD or an M.2 2280 SSD.
NOTE:This task applies only to computers shipped with an M.2 2280 SSD.

Steps

  1. Align the notch on the M.2 2280 SSD with the tab on the SSD slot, then gently slide the SSD into the slot.
    CAUTION:When installing the SSD, be careful not to damage or dislodge the thermal pad on the system board.
  2. Place the M.2 SSD thermal shield onto the M.2280 SSD as shown, ensuring the screw holes are aligned with the system board.
  3. Replace the two screws (M2x3) that secure the M.2 SSD thermal shield to the system board.
