System reports more drive slots than what is available
The system reports more slots than what is available in the following two scenarios:
- System drives are hot swappable with backplane.
- When the system drives are hot swappable, the PERC controller is not able to communicate correctly with the backplane or enclosure. Hence, the PERC controller reports a generic enclosure with drive 16 slots. In iDRAC, under , the Enclosure ID is displayed as BP_PSV and Firmware version is displayed as 03.
- Corrective action
- Turn off the system, reseat the controller and all the cables on the controller and backplane. If the issue is not resolved, contact your Dell Technical Service representative.
- System drives are not hot swappable with cable direct attached.

When the system drives are not hot swappable, a default enclosure with 16 drive slots is expected to be reported (even though the system does not support that many drives).
