Removal
Base Cover
Identify the base cover highlighted in blue.
Loosen the screws that secure the base cover to the palm rest assembly.
Remove the screws that secure the base cover to the palm rest assembly.
Pry the base cover near the hinges. Pry from recess points near the hinges.
Loosen the base covery by working on the left, right and, top sides to open the base cover.
Lift and remove the base cover off the palm rest assembly.
Battery Cable
Identify the battery cable highlighted in blue.
Disconnect the battery cable from the system board.
Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to ground the system and remove residual static electricity.
Memory Module
Identify the memory module highlighted in blue.
Lift the Mylar to access the memory module.
Using your fingertips, carefully spread apart the securing clips on each end of the memory module slot until the memory module pops up.
Slide and remove the memory module from the memory module slot on the system board.
Power Adapter Port
Identify the power adapter port highlighted in blue.
Remove the screws that secure the right display hinge to the system.
Open the right display hinge at an angle of 90 degrees.
Disconnect the power adapter port cable from the system board.
Unroute the power adapter port cable through the routing guides on the system.
Remove the power adapter port from the slot on the system.
SSD (solid state drive) 2230
Identify the solid state drive (SSD) highlighted in blue.
Remove the screws that secures the thermal shield to the system board.
Slide and remove the SSD assembly from the system board.
Flip over the SSD assembly.
Remove the screw that secures the SSD to the thermal shield.
Remove the SSD off the thermal shield.
Wireless Module (WLAN)
Heat Sink
Identify the heat sink highlighted in blue.
Loosen the screws that secure the heat sink to the system board. Loosen in reverse order (7 → 6 → 5 → 4).
Remove the screws that secure the heat sink to the system board. Remove in reverse order (3 → 2 → 1).
Lift the heat sink off the system board.
Use the alcohol pad to clean the system board and heatsink (as shown in the video).
System Board
Identify the system board highlighted in blue.
Lift the latch and disconnect the display cable from the system board.
To disconnect the speaker cable, pry up the bottom first and then pull it away to remove.
Disconnect the fan cable from the system board.
Lift the latch and disconnect the keyboard and backlight cables from the system board.
Lift the latch and disconnect the I/O board and touchpad cables from the system board.
Remove the screw that secures the system board to the palm rest assembly.
Remove the screws that secure the system board to the palm rest assembly.
Slide and remove the system board from the palm rest assembly.
Install
System Board
Identify the system board location highlighted in blue.
Slide the system board on to the palm rest assembly at an angle.
Install the screw that secures the system board to the palm rest assembly.
Install the screws that secure the system board to the palm rest assembly.
Connect the I/O board and touchpad cables to the system board. Close the latch to secure.
Connect the keyboard and backlight cables to the system board. Close the latch to secure.
Connect the fan cable to the system board.
Align the pins with the connector and push down the speaker cable to connect.
Connect the display cable to the system board. Close the latch to secure.
Heat Sink
Identify the heat sink location highlighted in blue.
Apply a pea sized amount of thermal material as shown.
Install the heat sink on the system board and align the screw holes.
Tighten the screws that secure the heat sink. Tighten in order (4 → 5 → 6 → 7). Do not over tighten.
Install the screws that secure the heat sink to the system board. Install in order (1 → 2 → 3).
Wireless Module (WLAN)
SSD (solid state drive) 2230
Identify the solid state drive (SSD) location highlighted in blue.
Place the SSD on the thermal shield and align with the screw holes.
Install the screw that secures the SSD to the thermal shield.
Flip over the SSD assembly.
Slide and connect the SSD to the connector on the system board.
Install the screws that secure the thermal shield to the system board.
Power Adapter Port
Identify the power adapter port location highlighted in blue.
Install the power adapter port into the slot on the system.
Route the power adapter port cable through the guide on the system.
Connect the power adapter port cable to the system board.
Close the right display hinge and align the screw holes.
Install the screws that secure the right display hinge to the system.
Memory Module
Identify the memory module location highlighted in blue.
Lift the Mylar to access the memory module slot.
Align the notch on the memory module with the tab on the slot and slide the memory into the slot at an angle.
Press the memory module down until it clicks into place.
Battery Cable
Identify the battery cable location highlighted in blue.
Connect the battery cable to the system board.
Base Cover
Identify the base cover location highlighted in blue.
Place the base cover on the system and snap into place.
Tighten the screws that secure the base cover to the system.
Install the screws that secure the base cover to the system.
