Removal
Base Cover
Identify the base cover highlighted in blue.
Loosen the captive screws that secure the base cover to the palm rest assembly.
Remove the screws that secure the base cover from the palm rest assembly.
Using a plastic scribe, pry open the base cover along the gap formed near the display hinges.
Lift the base cover off the palm rest assembly.
Battery Cable
Identify the battery cable highlighted in blue.
Disconnect the battery cable from the system board.
Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to ground the system and remove residual static electricity.
Battery
Identify the battery highlighted in blue.
Loosen the captive screws that secure the battery to the palm rest assembly.
Remove the battery along with the battery cable from the palm rest assembly.
SSD (Solid State Drive) 2230
Identify the solid state drive (SSD) highlighted in blue.
Remove the screw that secures the SSD thermal shield to the system board.
Slide and lift the SSD thermal shield from the system board.
Slide and remove the SSD from the system board.
Fan
Identify the fan highlighted in blue.
Disconnect the fan cable from the system board.
Remove the screws that secure the fan to the palm rest assembly.
Lift the fan, along with its cable, from the palm rest assembly.
Heat sink
Identify the heat sink highlighted in blue.
Remove the screws that secure the heat sink to the system board. Remove in reverse order.
Lift the heat sink from the system board.
Use the alcohol pad to clean the system board and heatsink (as shown in the video).
System board
Identify the system board highlighted in blue.
Remove the screw that secures the WLAN thermal plate to the palm rest assembly.
Slide and lift the WLAN thermal shield from the palm rest assembly.
Disconnect the antenna cables from the wireless card.
Pull up to disconnect the I/O board cable from the connector on the system board.
Disconnect the speaker cables from the system board.
Peel the tape that secures the coin cell battery to the speaker cable.
Pry the coin cell battery from its slot on the palm rest assembly.
Remove the screws that secure the left display hinge to the palm rest assembly.
Lift and open the left display hinge to a angle of 90 degrees from the palm rest assembly.
Remove the screws that secure the system board to the palm rest assembly.
Remove the screws that secure the USB type-C bracket to the palm rest assembly.
Slide and remove the system board along with the coin cell and USB type-C bracket off the palm rest assembly.
Install
System board
Identify the system board location highlighted in blue.
Slide and place the system board along with the coin cell and USB type-Cbracket on the palm rest assembly.
Install the screws that secure the USB type-Cbracket to the palm rest assembly.
Install the screws that secure the system board to the palm rest assembly.
Close the left display hinge downwards on the palm rest assembly and align with the screw holes.
Install the screws that secure the left display hinge to the palm rest and assembly.
Adhere the coin cell battery to its slot on the palm rest assembly.
Adhere the tape to secures the coin cell battery to the speaker cable.
Connect the speaker cables on the system board.
Connect the I/O board cable to the connector on the system board.
Connect the white cable to the main (empty triangle).
Connect the black cable to the auxiliary (filled triangle).
Slide and install the WLAN thermal plate on the palm rest assembly.
Install the screw that secures the WLAN thermal plate to the palm rest assembly.
Heat sink
Identify the heat sink location highlighted in blue.
Apply a pea sized amount of thermal material as shown.
Align it with the screw holes and place the heat sink on the system board.
Install the screws that secure the heat sink to the system board. Install in order. Do not over tighten.
Fan
Identify the fan location highlighted in blue.
Install the fan, along with its cable, onto the palm rest assembly.
Install the screws that secure the fan to the palm rest assembly.
Connect the fan cable on the system board.
SSD (Solid State Drive) 2230
Identify the solid state drive (SSD) location highlighted in blue.
Slide and insert the SSD into the slot on the system board.
Slide and insert the SSD thermal shield on the system board.
Install the screw that secures the SSD thermal shield to the system board.
Battery
Identify the battery location highlighted in blue.
Install the battery along with its battery cable into the slot on the palm rest assembly.
Tighten the captive screws that secure the battery to the palm rest assembly.
Battery Cable
Identify the battery cable location highlighted in blue.
Connect the battery cable on the system board.
Base Cover
Identify the base cover location highlighted in blue.
Align the base cover with the screw holes and press the edges of the cover until it clicks into place.
Tighten the screws that secure the base cover to the palm rest assembly.
Install the screws that secure the base cover to the palm rest assembly.
