How to replace the M.2 SSD on a Poweredge XE9640

This 3D experience gives you the step by step process of replacing the M.2 SSD and a Poweredge XE9640. The procedure will also include removing the Front Bezel, M.2 SSD card and reinstalling them.

Removal

Front Bezel

Identify the front bezel highlighted in blue

Unlock the front bezel by using the key.

Press the release button and disengage the left end of the bezel.

Unhook the right end, and remove the front bezel.

M.2 SSD card

Identify the M.2 SSD card highlighted in blue.

Pull and lift the BOSS-N1 card carrier retention latch lock to open.

Slide the BOSS-N1 card carrier out.

Position the BOSS-N1 card carrier

Remove the screw that secures the M.2 SSD module.

Slide the M.2 SSD module away from the BOSS card.

Install

M.2 SSD card

Identify the M.2 SSD card location highlighted in blue.

Position the BOSS-N1 card carrier

Align the notch with the tab and insert the SSD into the connector on the BOSS card.

Install the screw that secures the M.2 SSD module.

Slide the BOSS-N1 card carrier into the BOSS-N1 module slot.

Close the BOSS-N1 card carrier release latch to lock the carrier in place.

Front Bezel

Identify the front bezel location highlighted in blue

Align and insert the tabs on the bezel into the slots on the system.

Press the bezel until the release button clicks in place.

Lock the front bezel by using the key.
