Removal
System Cover
Identify the system cover highlighted in blue.
Using a 1/4" Flathead or a Phillips #2 screwdriver, rotate the lock counter clockwise.
Lift the latch untill the system cover slides back.
Hold the cover on both sides, and lift the cover away from the system.
Cooling Shroud
Identify the cooling fans highlighted in blue
Hold the orange release tab and lift the cooling fan to disconnect the fan from the connector on the system board.
System Memory
Select the system memory you want to replace. System can have up to 32 dimms installed.
To release the memory module from the socket, simultaneously press the ejectors on both ends of the socket.
Holding the memory by the edges, lift to remove.
Heatsink
Identify the processor and heat sink module highlighted in blue
Using a Torx #T30 screwdriver, Loosen the first and diagnally opposite(2nd) screws three turns and then loosen the third and diagnally opposite(4th) screws three turns.
Loosen the captive screws 1 and 2 completely and then the screws 3 and 4 completely.
Set all the anti-tilt wires to unlocked position (inward position).
Lift the PHM from the system and set the PHM aside with the processor side facing up.
If you are using an existing heat sink, remove the thermal grease on the heat sink by using a clean lint-free cloth.
Processor
Position the processor and heatsink module(PHM) as shown in the AR
Identify the processor highlighted in blue.
Using your thumb, lift the thermal interface material (TIM) break lever to release the processor from the TIM and retaining clip.
Holding the processor by the edges, lift the processor away from the retaining clip.
Using your thumb and index finger, first hold the retaining clip release tab at the pin 1 connector, pull out the tip of the retaining clip release tab, and then lift the retaining clip partially from the heat sink.
Repeat the procedure at the remaining three corners of the retaining clip.
After all the corners are released from the heat sink, lift the retaining clip from the pin 1 corner of the heat sink.
Install
Processor
Identify the processor tray location highlighted in blue
Align the retaining clip with processor tray and ensure the pin 1 indicator on the processor tray is aligned with the pin 1 indicator on the retaining clip.
Place the retaining clip on top of the processor in the processor tray.
Align the processor with retaining clip, by using your fingers press the retaining clip on all the four sides until it clicks into place.
Use the thermal grease syringe included with your kit to apply the grease in a thin spiral on the bottom of the heat sink or For new heat sink, remove the Thermal Interface Material (TIM) protective film from the base of heat sink.
Place the heat sink on the processor and press the base of the heat sink until the retaining clip locks onto the heat sink at all the four corners.
Heatsink
Identify the processor and heat sink module Location highlighted in blue
Set the anti-tilt wires to the unlocked position on the heat sink (inward position).
Align the pin 1 indicator of the heat sink to the system board, and then place the processor heat sink module (PHM) on the processor socket.
Set the anti-tilt wires to the locked position (outward position),
Using a Torx #T30 screwdriver, In a random order, Partially tighten the first and diagnal screw(2nd) screws and then the third and diagnal(4th) screws (approximately 3 turns).
Tighten the captive screws 1 and 2 completely and then screws 3 and 4 completely.
System Memory
Confirm the highlighted memory DIMM is the correct location to install or change selection.
Align the edge connector of memory module with the alignment key of the memory module socket, and insert into the socket.
Press the memory module until the socket levers firmly click into place.
Cooling Shroud
Identify the cooling fans location highlighted in blue
Align and lower the cooling fan into the cooling fan assembly until the fan clicks into place.
System Cover
Identify the system cover location highlighted in blue.
Align the tabs on the system cover with the guide slots on the system.
Push the system cover latch down.
Using a 1/4" Flathead or a Phillips #2 screwdriver, rotate the lock clockwise.
