How to replace the System Board on a Dell 14 Plus 2-in-1 DB04250

This 3D experience gives you the step by step process of replacing the System Board and a Dell 14 Plus 2-in-1 DB04250. The procedure will also include removing the Base Cover, Battery Cable, Battery, Wireless Module (WLAN), Solid State Drive (SSD) 2230, Fan, Heat Sink and reinstalling them.

Removal

1. Base Cover
   • Identify the base cover highlighted in blue.
   • Loosen the screws that secure the base cover to the palm rest assembly.
   • Remove the screws that secure the base cover to the palm rest assembly.
   • Pry the base cover starting from the top left corner at the hinge and continuing on all sides to loosen it from the palm rest assembly.
   • Remove the base cover from the palm rest assembly.
2. Battery Cable
   • Identify the battery cable highlighted in blue.
   • Disconnect the battery cable from the system board.
   • Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to ground the system and remove residual static electricity.
3. Battery
   • Identify the battery highlighted in blue.
   • Remove the screws that secure the battery to the palm rest assembly.
   • Lift the battery, along with the battery cable, from the palm rest assembly.
4. Wireless Module (WLAN)
   • Identify the wireless module (WLAN) highlighted in blue.
   • Remove the screw that secures the bracket to the wireless module.
   • Lift the bracket from the wireless module.
   • Disconnect the antenna cables from the wireless module.
   • Slide and remove the wireless card from the system board
5. Solid State Drive (SSD) 2230
   • Identify the solid state drive (SSD) highlighted in blue.
   • Remove the screw that secures the SSD assembly to the system board.
   • Slide and lift the SSD assembly from the system board.
   • Flip over the SSD assembly.
   • Remove the screw that secures the SSD to the mounting bracket.
   • Slide and remove the SSD from the mounting bracket.
6. Fan
   • Identify the fan highlighted in blue.
   • Disconnect the fan cable from the system board.
   • Unroute the fan cable from the routing guides on the palm rest assembly.
   • Remove the screws that secure the fan to the palm rest assembly.
   • Lift the fan along with the fan cable from the palm rest assembly.
7. Heat Sink
   • Identify the heat sink highlighted in blue.
   • Loosen the screws that secure the heat sink to the system board. Loosen in reverse order.
   • Remove the heat sink from the system board.
   • Use the alcohol pad to clean the system board and heatsink (as shown in the video).
8. System Board
   • Identify the system board highlighted in blue.
   • Remove the screws that secure the right display hinge to the palm rest assembly.
   • Open the right display hinge at an angle of 90 degrees.
   • Peel the tape that secures the display cable to the latch on the system board.
   • Lift the latch and disconnect the display cable from the system board.
   • Lift the latch and disconnect the I/O board and touchpad cables from the system board.
   • Disconnect the speaker cable from the system board.
   • Remove the screws that secure the USB type-C bracket to the system.
   • Remove the USB type-C bracket off the system.
   • Remove the screws that secure the system board to the palm rest assembly.
   • Slide and lift the system board from the palm rest assembly.

Install

1. System Board
   • Identify the system board location highlighted in blue.
   • Slide and place the system board on the palm rest assembly.
   • Install the screws that secures the system board to the palm rest assembly.
   • Install the USB type-C bracket on the system.
   • Install the screws that secure the USB type-C bracket to the system.
   • Connect the speaker cable to the system board.
   • Connect the I/O board and the touchpad cables to the system board. Close the latch to secure.
   • Connect the display cable to the system board and close the latch to secure.
   • Adhere the tape that secures the display cable to the latch on the system board.
   • Close the right display hinge and align it with the screw holes.
   • Install the screws that secure the right display hinge to the palm rest assembly.
2. Heat Sink
   • Identify the heat sink location highlighted in blue.
   • Apply a pea sized amount of thermal material as shown.
   • Align and install the heat sink on the system board.
   • Tighten the screws that secure the heat sink. Tighten in order. Do not over tighten.
3. Fan
   • Identify the fan location highlighted in blue.
   • Install the fan, along with the battery cable, into the palm rest assembly.
   • Install the screws that secure the fan to the palm rest assembly.
   • Route the fan cable through the routing guides on the palm rest assembly.
   • Connect the fan cable to the system board.
4. Solid State Drive (SSD) 2230
   • Identify the solid state drive (SSD) location highlighted in blue.
   • Slide and insert the SSD into the mounting bracket.
   • Install the screw that secures the SSD to the mounting bracket.
   • Flip over the SSD assembly.
   • Slide and insert the SSD assembly into the slot on the system board.
   • Install the screw that secures the SSD assembly to the system board.
5. Wireless Module (WLAN)
   • Identify the wireless module (WLAN) location highlighted in blue.
   • Slide and insert the wireless card into the slot on the system board.
   • Connect the black cable to the auxiliary (black triangle).
   • Connect the white cable to the main (white triangle).
   • Slide and install the bracket on the wireless module.
   • Install the screw that secures the bracket to the wireless module.
6. Battery
   • Identify the battery location highlighted in blue.
   • Install the battery, along with the battery cable, into the palm rest assembly.
   • Install the screws that secure the battery to the palm rest assembly.
7. Battery Cable
   • Identify the battery cable location highlighted in blue.
   • Connect the battery cable to the system board.
8. Base Cover
   • Identify the base cover location highlighted in blue.
   • Align the base cover and press the edges of the cover until it clicks into place.
   • Tighten the screws that secure the base cover to the palm rest assembly.
   • Install the screws that secure the base cover to the palm rest assembly.
