How to replace the I/O Board on a Dell Pro14 PC14250

This 3D experience gives you the step by step process of replacing the I/O Board and a Dell Pro14 PC14250. The procedure will also include removing the Base Cover, Battery Cable, Fan and reinstalling them.

Removal

Base Cover

Identify the base cover highlighted in blue.

Loosen the captive screws that secure the base cover to the palm rest assembly.

Pry open the top side of the base cover, then continue along the sides to fully detach the base cover.

Lift the base cover off the palm rest assembly.

Identify the base cover location highlighted in blue.

Align and place the base cover on the palm rest assembly and snap it into place.

Tighten the captive screws that secure the base cover to the palm rest assembly.

Battery Cable

Identify the battery cable highlighted in blue.

Disconnect the battery cable from the system board.

Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to ground the system and remove residual static electricity.

Fan

Identify the fan highlighted in blue.

Disconnect the fan cable from the system board.

Remove the screws that secure the fan to the palm rest assembly.

Remove the fan from the palm rest assembly.

I/O Board

Identify the I/O board highlighted in blue.

Remove the screws that secure the right display hinge to the palm rest assembly.

Open the right display hinge at an angle of 90 degrees.

Lift the latch and disconnect the I/O board cable from the I/O board.

Remove the screws that secure the I/O board to the palm rest assembly.

Lift the I/O board off the palm rest assembly.

Identify the I/O board location highlighted in blue.

Align and place the I/O board on the palm rest assembly.

Install the screws that secure the I/O board to the palm rest assembly.

Connect the I/O board cable to the connector on the I/O board and close the latch.

Close the right display hinge and align it with the screw holes.

Install the screws that secure the right display hinge to the palm rest assembly.

Install

I/O Board

Fan

Identify the fan location highlighted in blue.

Align and place the fan on the palm rest assembly.

Install the screws that secure the fan to the palm rest assembly.

Connect the fan cable to the system board.

Battery Cable

Identify the battery cable location highlighted in blue.

Connect the battery cable to the system board.

Base Cover

Identify the battery cable location highlighted in blue.

Connect the battery cable to the system board.
