How to replace the Palm rest and keyboard on a Dell 15 DC15250

This 3D experience gives you the step by step process of replacing the Palm rest and keyboard and a Dell 15 DC15250. The procedure will also include removing the Base Cover, Battery Cable, Battery, SSD SSD 2230, Memory module, WLAN, System Fan, I/O Board, Power Button, Speakers, Touchpad, Power adapter port, Display Assembly, System board Assembly, Palm rest assembly and reinstalling them.

Removal

Base Cover

1. Identify the base cover highlighted in blue.
2. Loosen the captive screws on the base cover.
3. Remove the screws that secure the base cover.
4. Using a plastic scribe, pry the base cover near the hinges to release it from the system.
5. Remove the base cover by loosening the sides and front.

Battery Cable

1. Identify the battery cable highlighted in blue.
2. Using the pull tab, disconnect the battery cable from the system board.
3. Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to ground the system and remove residual static electricity.

Battery

SSD (Solid State Drive) 2230

1. Identify the solid state drive (SSD) highlighted in blue.
2. Remove the screw that secures the SSD thermal shield to the system.
3. Slide and lift the SSD thermal shield off the SSD.
4. Slide and lift the solid state drive (SSD) from the system board.

Memory module

1. Identify the memory modules highlighted in blue.
2. Using your fingertips, carefully spread apart the securing clips on each end until the memory module pops up.
3. Hold the edges and carefully lift the memory module up from connector on the system board.

Wireless Module (WLAN)

1. Identify the wireless module (WLAN) highlighted in blue.
2. Remove the screw that secures the bracket and wireless module to the system.
3. Remove the bracket to access the WLAN cables.
4. Disconnect the antenna cables from the wireless module (WLAN).
5. Slide and remove the wireless module out of the slot on the system board.

System Fan

I/O Board

1. Identify the I/O board highlighted in blue.
2. Remove the screws that secure the left display hinge to the system.
3. Lift to open the left display hinge.
4. Remove the screws that secure the I/O board.
5. Slide and remove the I/O board at angle from the palm rest assembly.

Power Button

1. Identify the power button highlighted in blue.
2. Remove the screw that secures the power button to the system.
3. Lift the power button along with its cable, from the system.

Speakers

1. Identify the speakers highlighted in blue.
2. To disconnect the speaker cable, pry up the bottom first and then pull it away to remove.
3. Unroute and remove the speaker cable from the routing guides on the system.
4. Lift the speakers and cable from the system. Use a scribe to lift under the grommets.

Touchpad

1. Identify the touchpad highlighted in blue.
2. Remove the screws that secure the touchpad bracket to the palm rest assembly.
3. Lift the touchpad bracket off the touchpad.
4. Lift the latch and disconnect the touchpad cable from the touchpad.
5. Remove the screws that secure the touchpad to the system.
6. Slide and lift the touchpad to remove.

Power adapter port

1. Identify the power adapter port highlighted in blue.
2. Remove the screws that secure the right display hinge to the system.
3. Lift to open the right display hinge.
4. Disconnect the power adapter port cable from the system board.
5. Unroute the cable and lift the power adapter port from the system.

Display Assembly

1. Identify the display assembly highlighted in blue.
2. Remove the screws that secure the hinges to the system board.
3. Lift to open the display hinges.
4. Disconnect the speaker cable from the system board.
5. Lift the latch and disconnect the display cable from the system board.
6. Unroute the speaker cables from the palm rest.
7. Unroute the WLAN cables from the palm rest.
8. Slide the palm rest assembly carefully off the display assembly.

System board Assembly

1. Place the palm rest assembly on a clean and flat surface.
2. Identify the system board assembly highlighted in blue.
3. Remove the screws that secure the system board.
4. Remove the screw that secures the system board.
5. Slide and lift to remove the system board.

Palm rest assembly

1. Identify the palm rest assembly highlighted in blue.
2. After all the parts are removed, the palm rest assembly is remaining.

Install

Palm rest assembly

1. Identify the palm rest assembly location highlighted in blue.

System board Assembly

1. Identify the system board assembly location highlighted in blue.
2. Install the system board into the slot on the system, aligning the ports.
3. Install the screw that secures the system board.
4. Install the screws that secure the system board.

Display Assembly

1. Place the display assembly on a clean and flat surface.
2. Identify the display assembly location highlighted in blue.
3. Align and slide the palm rest assembly under the display hinges.
4. Close the hinges and align the screw holes.
5. Install the screws that secure the hinges to the system board.
6. Route the wireless module (WLAN) cable through the routing channels on the palm rest assembly.
7. Route the speaker cable through the routing channels on the palm rest assembly.
8. Connect the display cable to the system board. Close the latch to secure.
9. Connect the speaker cable to the system board.

Power adapter port

1. Identify the power adapter port location highlighted in blue.
2. Install the power adapter port into the slot. Route the cable under the board.
3. Connect the power adapter port cable to the system board.
4. Close the right display hinge and align the screw holes.
5. Install the screws that secure the right display hinge to the system.

Touchpad

1. Identify the touchpad panel location highlighted in blue.
2. Install the touchpad into the slot on the palm rest assembly and align the screw holes.
3. Install the screws to secure the touchpad to the system.
4. Connect the touchpad cable and close the latch to secure.
5. Install the touchpad bracket into the slot on the touchpad.
6. Install the screws to secure the touchpad bracket.

Speakers

1. Identify the speakers location highlighted in blue.
2. Using the alignment posts, install the speakers in the slots on the system.
3. Route the speaker cable through the routing guides on the palm rest assembly.
4. Align the pins with the connector and push down to connect the speaker cable.

Power Button

1. Identify the power button location highlighted in blue.
2. Install the power button into the slot on the system.
3. Install the screw that secures the power button to the system.

I/O Board

1. Identify the I/O board location highlighted in blue.
2. Slide and install the I/O board at an angle on the palm rest assembly.
3. Install the screws that secure the I/O board.
4. Close the left hinge and align the screw holes.
5. Install the screws to secure the left hinge to the system.

System Fan

Wireless Module (WLAN)

1. Identify the wireless module location (WLAN) highlighted in blue.
2. Install the WLAN into the connector on the system board.
3. Connect the black cable to the auxiliary (black triangle).
4. Connect the white cable to the main (white triangle).
5. Align the screw hole on the bracket with the screw hole on the wireless module.
6. Install the screw that secures the bracket and wireless module to the system.

Memory module

1. Identify the memory modules location highlighted in blue.
2. Align the notch on the memory module with the tab on the slot and slide the memory into the slot at an angle.
3. Press the memory module down until it clicks into place.

SSD (Solid State Drive) 2230

1. Identify the solid state drive (SSD) location highlighted in blue.
2. Align the notches on the solid state drive (SSD) and slide into the slot on the system board.
3. Install the SSD thermal shield on the solid state drive (SSD).
4. Install the screw that secures the SSD to the system.

Battery

Battery Cable

1. Identify the battery cable location highlighted in blue.
2. Connect the battery cable to the connector on the system board.

Base Cover

1. Identify the base cover location highlighted in blue.
2. Install the base cover and press the edges and sides until it snaps into place.
3. Tighten the captive screws that secure the base cover.
4. Install the screws that secure the base cover.
