How to replace the Smart Card Reader on a Dell Pro 13 Plus PB13250 U Series

This 3D experience gives you the step by step process of replacing the Smart Card Reader and a Dell Pro 13 Plus PB13250 U Series. The procedure will also include removing the Base Cover, Battery Cable, Battery and reinstalling them.

Removal

1. Base Cover
   • Identify the base cover highlighted in blue.
   • Loosen the captive screws that secure the base cover to the palm rest assembly.
   • Using a plastic scribe, pry open the base cover from the recesses that are located in the U-shaped indents at the top edge of the base cover near the hinges.
   • Lift the base cover off the palm rest assembly.
   • Identify the base cover location highlighted in blue.
   • Align the base cover with the screw holes, place the base cover on the palm rest assembly, and snap into place.
   • Tighten the captive screws to secure the base cover to the palm rest assembly.
2. Battery Cable
   • Identify the battery cable highlighted in blue.
   • Disconnect the battery cable from the system board.
   • Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to ground the system and remove residual static electricity.
3. Battery
   • Identify the battery highlighted in blue.
   • Loosen the captive screws that secure the battery to the palm rest assembly.
   • Lift the battery off the palm rest assembly.
   • Flip the battery.
   • Unroute the battery cable from the routing guides on the battery.
   • Disconnect and remove the battery cable from the connector on the battery.
   • Identify the battery location highlighted in blue.
   • Place and connect the battery cable to its connector on the battery.
   • Route the battery cable through the routing guides on the battery.
   • Flip the battery.
   • Align it with the screw holes and place the battery into the slot on the palm rest assembly.
   • Tighten the captive screws that secure the battery to the palm rest assembly.
4. Smart Card Reader
   • Identify the smart card reader highlighted in blue.
   • Lift the latch and disconnect the smart card reader cable from the USH board.
   • Peel back the smart card reader flexible flat cable from the system.
   • Peel the tape that secure the smart card reader to the system.
   • Remove the screws that secure the smart card reader to the palm rest assembly.
   • Lift the smart card reader along with its cable off the palm rest assembly.
   • Identify the smart card reader location highlighted in blue.
   • Align and place the smart card reader on its slot on the palm rest assembly.
   • Install the screws that secure the smart card reader to the palm rest assembly.
   • Adhere the tape that secures the smart card reader to the system.
   • Adhere the smart card reader flexible flat cable to the system.
   • Connect the smart card cable on the USH board and close the latch to secure.

Install

1. Smart Card Reader
   • Identify the heat sink location highlighted in blue.
   • Apply a pea sized amount of thermal material as shown.
   • Align and place the heat sink on the system board and align with the screw holes.
   • Tighten the screws that secure the heat sink to the system board. Tighten in order. Do not over tighten.
   • Adhere the thermal barrier to the heat sink.
2. Battery
   • Identify the solid state drive (SSD) location highlighted in blue.
   • Align the notch with the tab and slide the SSD into the slot on the system board.
   • Install the screw that secures the SSD to the system board.
   • Place the bracket into the SSD slot on the system board.
   • Install the screws that secure the SSD bracket to the system board.
3. Battery Cable
   • Identify the battery cable location highlighted in blue.
   • Connect the battery cable on the system board.
4. Base Cover
   • Identify the battery cable location highlighted in blue.
   • Connect the battery cable on the system board.
