How to replace the USB Type-C connector module on a Dell Pro 13 Plus PB13250 U Series

This 3D experience gives you the step by step process of replacing the USB Type-C connector module and a Dell Pro 13 Plus PB13250 U Series. The procedure will also include removing the Base Cover, Battery Cable, Battery, WWAN Card, Solid State Drive, Memory module, WLAN Card, Fan, Display Cable, Display Assembly, System Board Assembly and reinstalling them.

Removal

1. Base Cover
   • Identify the base cover highlighted in blue.
   • Loosen the captive screws that secure the base cover to the palm rest assembly.
   • Using a plastic scribe, pry open the base cover from the recesses that are located in the U-shaped indents at the top edge of the base cover near the hinges.
   • Lift the base cover off the palm rest assembly.
   • Identify the base cover location highlighted in blue.
   • Align the base cover with the screw holes, place the base cover on the palm rest assembly, and snap into place.
   • Tighten the captive screws to secure the base cover to the palm rest assembly.
2. Battery Cable
   • Identify the battery cable highlighted in blue.
   • Disconnect the battery cable from the system board.
   • Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to ground the system and remove residual static electricity.
3. Battery
   • Identify the battery highlighted in blue.
   • Loosen the captive screws that secure the battery to the palm rest assembly.
   • Lift the battery off the palm rest assembly.
   • Flip the battery.
   • Unroute the battery cable from the routing guides on the battery.
   • Disconnect and remove the battery cable from the connector on the battery.
   • Identify the battery location highlighted in blue.
   • Place and connect the battery cable to its connector on the battery.
   • Route the battery cable through the routing guides on the battery.
   • Flip the battery.
   • Align it with the screw holes and place the battery into the slot on the palm rest assembly.
   • Tighten the captive screws that secure the battery to the palm rest assembly.

6. Memory module
   • Identify the memory module highlighted in blue.
   • Using your fingertips, carefully spread apart the securing clips until the memory module pops up.
   • Hold the edges and carefully lift the memory module up from connector on the system board.
   • Identify the memory module location highlighted in blue.
   • Align the notch on the memory module with the tab on the slot and slide the memory into the slot at an angle.
   • Press the memory module down until it clicks into place.
7. WLAN Card
   • Identify the WLAN card highlighted in blue.
   • Remove the screw that secures the wireless card bracket to the system board.
   • Lift the wireless card bracket from the WLAN card.
   • Disconnect the WLAN antenna cables from the WLAN card.
   • Slide and remove the WLAN card from the wireless card slot.
   • Identify the WLAN card location highlighted in blue.
   • Align and slide the WLAN card at an angle into the wireless card slot.
   • Connect the white cable to the main.
   • Connect the black cable to the auxiliary.
   • Align and place the WLAN card bracket on the WLAN card.
   • Install the screw that secures the WLAN card bracket and the WLAN card to the system board.
8. Fan
   • Identify the fan highlighted in blue.
   • Remove the screws that secure the 5G WWAN card bracket to the system.
   • Remove the 5G WWAN card bracket from the system.
   • Disconnect the fan cable from the I/O board.
   • Remove the screws that secure the fan to the palm rest assembly.
   • Remove the fan from the palm rest assembly.
9. Display Cable
   • Identify the display cable highlighted in blue.
   • Remove the screws that secure the display cable bracket to the system board.
   • Lift the display cable bracket off the system board.
   • Peel the tapes that secure the display and sensor board cables to the system.
   • Lift the black flap and disconnect the sensor board cable from the system board.
   • Lift the black flap and disconnect the display cable from the system board.
   • Unroute the display and sensor board cables from the routing guides on the system.
   • Identify the display cable location highlighted in blue.
   • Route the display and sensor board cables through the routing guides on the system.
   • Connect the display cable on the system board and place the black flap to cover the display cable.
   • Connect the sensor board cable on the system board and place the black flap to cover the sensor board cable.
   • Adhere the tapes to secure the display and sensor board cables to the system.
   • Install the display cable bracket on the system board.
   • Install the screws that secure the display cable bracket to the system board.
10. Display Assembly
    • Identify the display assembly highlighted in blue.
    • Open the display assembly at an angle of 90 degrees and place the system on flat surface as shown.
    • Remove the screws that secure the left and right display hinges to the palm rest assembly.
    • Remove the display assembly off the palm rest assembly.
    • Identify the display assembly location highlighted in blue.
    • Align it with the screw holes and place the display assembly on the palm rest assembly.
    • Install the screws that secure the left and right display hinges to the palm rest assembly.
    • Close the display assembly onto the palm rest assembly and place the system on flat surface as shown.
11. System Board Assembly
    • Identify the system board assembly highlighted in blue.
    • Partly peel the mylar to access the screws on the middle bracket (AB10) that connects the I/O board and system board to the palm rest assembly.
    • Remove the screws that secure the system board to the I/O board. Remove in reverse order.
    • Remove the screws that secure the system board to the palm rest assembly.
    • Remove the screws that secure the system board to the palm rest assembly.
    • Unroute the WLAN antenna cables from the system board.
    • Slide and lift the system board assembly off the palm rest assembly.
    • Identify the system board assembly location highlighted in blue.
    • Align and place the system board assembly on the palm rest assembly.
    • Route the WLAN antenna cables to the system board.
    • Install the screws that secure the system board to the palm rest assembly.
    • Install the screws that secure the system board to the palm rest assembly.
    • Install the screws that secure the system board to the I/O board. Install in order.
    • Adhere the mylar to the screws on the middle bracket (AB10) that connects the I/O board and system board to the palm rest assembly.
12. USB Type-C connector module
    • Rotate the system board assembly 180 degree.
    • Identify the USB type-C connector module highlighted in blue.
    • Remove the screws that secure the USB type-C connector module to the system board.
    • Remove the USB type-C connector module from the system board.
    • Identify the USB type-C connector module location highlighted in blue.
    • Align and place the USB type-C connector module to the slot on the system board.
    • Install the screws that secure the USB type-C connector module to the system board.
    • Flip the system board assembly 180 degree.

   • Install the screws that secure the 5G WWAN card bracket to the system.
6. WLAN Card
   • Identify the solid state drive (SSD) location highlighted in blue.
   • Align the notch with the tab and slide the SSD into the slot on the system board.
   • Install the screw that secures the SSD to the system board.
   • Place the bracket into the SSD slot on the system board.
   • Install the screws that secure the SSD bracket to the system board.
7. Memory module
   • Identify the solid state drive (SSD) location highlighted in blue.
   • Align the notch with the tab and slide the SSD into the slot on the system board.
   • Install the screw that secures the SSD to the system board.
   • Place the bracket into the SSD slot on the system board.
   • Install the screws that secure the SSD bracket to the system board.
