How to replace the Attic Board on a PowerEdge R6715

This 3D experience gives you the step by step process of replacing the Attic Board and a PE R6715. The procedure will also include removing the System Cover, Riser R2k, DC SCM Board and reinstalling them.

Removal

System Cover

1. Identify the system cover highlighted in blue.
2. Using a Philips #2 screwdriver, rotate the lock counterclockwise to the unlock position.
3. Lift the release latch until the system cover slides back.
4. Lift the cover from the system.

Riser R2k

1. Identify the riser highlighted in blue.
2. Disconnect the cables from the HPM board.
3. Holding the touch points, lift the expansion card riser to disengage it from the connector and guide pin.

DC SCM Board

1. Identify the DC SCM board highlighted in blue.
2. Disconnect the left control panel cable from the attic board.
3. Open the blue latch to disengage the DC SCM board.
4. Push the DC SCM board toward the rear to disconnect it, then slide it out of the system.

Attic Board

1. Position the DC SCM board as shown.
2. Identify the attic board highlighted in blue.
3. Loosen the captive screws that secure the attic board to the DC SCM board.
4. Tilt and lift the attic board from the DC SCM guide pins.

Install

Attic Board

1. Identify the attic board location highlighted in blue.
2. Align the attic board at an angle with the guide pins on the DC SCM board, then press it down to secure it in place.
3. Tighten the captive screws that secure the attic board to the DC SCM board.

DC SCM Board

1. Identify the DC SCM board location highlighted in blue.
2. Open the blue latch to install the DC SCM board.
3. Slide the DC SCM board into the slot, then push it until it connects with the system board.
4. Close the blue latch to lock the DC SCM board to the system.
5. Connect the left control panel cable to the attic board.

Riser R2k

1. Identify the riser location highlighted in blue.
2. Align the riser with the connector and guide pin, install it, and press down until it is fully seated.
3. Connect the cables to the HPM board.

System Cover

1. Identify the system cover location highlighted in blue.
2. Align the tabs on the system cover with the guide slots on the system, and slide the system cover.
3. Close the system cover release latch.
4. Using a Philips #2 screwdriver, rotate the lock clockwise to the locked position.
