How to replace the Riser R4a Expansion Card on a PowerEdge R6715

This 3D experience gives you the step by step process of replacing the Riser R4a Expansion Card and a PE R6715. The procedure will also include removing the System Cover, Riser R4a and reinstalling them.

Removal

System Cover

1. Identify the system cover highlighted in blue.
2. Using a Philips #2 screwdriver, rotate the lock counterclockwise to the unlock position.
3. Lift the release latch until the system cover slides back.
4. Lift the cover from the system.

Riser R4a

1. Identify the riser highlighted in blue.
2. Pull the riser latch to the unlocked position.
3. Lift the expansion card riser to disengage it from the connector and guide pin on the HPM board.

Riser R4a Expansion Card

1. Position the riser as shown.
2. Identify the expansion card highlighted in blue.
3. Pull and rotate the expansion card retention latches on both ends of the riser.
4. Hold the expansion card by its edges and pull to disengage it from the riser connector.

Install

Riser R4a Expansion Card

1. Identify the expansion card location highlighted in blue.
2. Align the expansion card with the riser, then insert it firmly until it is fully seated.
3. Close the expansion card retention latches on both ends of the riser.

Riser R4a

1. Identify the riser location highlighted in blue.
2. Align the riser with the connector and guide pin, lower it, and press down until it is fully seated.
3. Slide the riser latch into the locked position.

System Cover

1. Identify the system cover location highlighted in blue.
2. Align the tabs on the system cover with the guide slots on the system, and slide the system cover.
3. Close the system cover release latch.
4. Using a Philips #2 screwdriver, rotate the lock clockwise to the locked position.
