**Scammer posing as a Dell Technician **
I'm not sure if the Dell Fraudulent Dept. has gotten hold of this recent scamming tactic, but I was contacted by a scammer who posed as a Dell technician on 8/25/15. The contact number was 201-942-0539 and the technician claims his name was 'Alan Smith', but I had a strong feeling he was lying.
Techician called and said the PC I purchased 2.5 years ago recorded multiple usage in different locations. He said this kind of scenario is bizarre and needs me to input a few instructions into the PC in order to make sure its not being used by 3rd parties. I found this quite skeptical and asked where are these locations you see in your database, but he couldn't provide that detail. Also, I didn't know Dell kept tracking devices in our machines.
The technician was able to provide the Dell serial number, date of purchase and PC model. Not sure where he would have gotten that detail unless he worked in the company. Either way, I didn't believe what he was telling me and decided to copy down some more information. He also gave me another contact number 1-800-825-5771 and that is not a Dell contact number.
Dell, please increase check to make sure protocols of customer information is protected and crack down on these scammers. I'm quite savvy when it comes to computers, but there are others that might fall into this scam.
