Server recognized in ome with question mark

Hello

What are the possible scenarios for ome shows/listed the server as not fully recognized and it is with question mark

It does not list down the full software inventory too.

server is currently listed under RAC

Updated firmware. idrac LC
CSIOR enabled
SNMP enabled
idrac reset
Communicated with WSMAN and discover using the same

What else that we can carried out as next steps ?

Thanks

If the server is classified under "RAC" device group with a question mark, it mean the health status is unknown.

What is the server model ?

Have you discovered both iDRAC and Server IP address (operating system) ?

Can you right click on the device and select "Refresh Status" ? Does it update the health status of the device or still unknown (question mark) ?

Did you run inventory on the device to retrieve full software inventory ?

Thanks,
Raj Shresta

Hi Raj

I get the below error when updating R720xd disk firmware from YS0A to YS09

Results:
 Downloading Packages.
Check the following: Credentials entered are valid, iDRAC  is reachable from OME host and iDRAC is in a good state.
 Software Update Task Failed.

What could be the reason ?

It is LAN - actually it is the same server room as OME server and 50 other servers.

Ping times to both server and iDRAC are <1ms

This machine shows Health Status as ? both under servers and RAC groups in OME.

OME version 1.2.1

Hi there,

Is this a WAN or LAN connection?

Can you do a ping and let me know the response time?

Are you discovering the iDrac and server both?  Or just the server via in-band SNMP?

What version of OME is this?

Thx!

Rob

I have similar issue on 1 server out of 50 with the same settings.

It shows with question mark under servers - when I manually run Refresh Status - it becomes green. After few hours - question mark again.

When I remove it it gets discovered over night and situation is still the same.

It is Dell R510 like 50 other servers, Windows Server 2008 R2, OMSA 7.3, SNMP communication works like charm, updated firmware and drivers using SUU Q3-2013. I have no idea what else can I try?

It is already configured like you suggest in two different discovery ranges.

Discovery works, Inventory also, Health Status is the only problem.

Do you think we get alerted when i.e. disk fails and Health Status is ?

Hmmmm...ok.

Do you have the IP for both iDrac and Server in the same range?

If so, would it be possible to put the iDrac in one discovery range and put the Server IP addr in a separate discovery range?  We've seen this with a few folks and that workaround seems to help them sometimes.

Not sure if this is feasible as it may depend on how your IPs are defined in your environment.

Thanks,

Rob

Ok, so for the server that is giving us the trouble....

Is the iDrac and the server IP both on the same subnet?

Do you have a discovery range defined for both IPs (idrac, server) on this particular box? (just double checking).

Thx

The iDRAC IP is on a different subnet than server OS IP.

There are also two different discovery ranges created - separate for DRACs and OSes.

This configuration is the same for all the other servers.

Ok, one more question :)

Is it possible that the IP for the iDrac _accidentally_ shows up in the discovery range for the servers as well?

Or the IP address for the bad server shows up in the iDrac discovery range?

Thanks,

Rob

Not really as we have a dedicated subnet for out-of-band management which is 10.10.241.0/24

While OSes get IPs from subnet 10.10.1.0/24

I confirmed those settings on this server - actually communication would not work the other way.

To me the most important question is "will I get alerted when Health Status shows ?"

If yes then to me it would be a visual issue I can live with

thanks Rob for trying to help me.

Hi,

To answer your question that if you will get alerted even if the Health status is ?. The answer is YES. If your device is pointed to send the alerts to OME machine, you will get alerted. All you need to do is configure the SNMP trap settings to send traps to OME machine.

But, the question for us still remains as to why the health status is turning "?" after every status poll. Just to be sure for this, as soon as you run a status poll on that device, can you check the network connectivity and using troubleshooting tool on the same device, can you share what is the result?

ah ok.  Well I updated the thread below on Nov 13.  I wonder if that is useful.
