DELL Dimension 9100 – No Booting (diagnostic light: 1 green - 2 - 3 - 4 green)

Hi dear DELL Users!

I would appreciate  your answers and solutions for  the following problem:

·         Booting the PC ist not possible

·         PC stucks while the BIOS procedure (Revison level A03) nearly at the end of this process (progression bar nearly at it's end); PC freezes totally; only the power-turn-off button can be used to switch off

·         The F2 and F12 key could not be accessed

·         The diagnostic lights show the following results at the end of the process:

1 = green (permanent)

2 = off

3 = off

4 = green (permanent)

In the DELL Dimenesion 91000 manual there is no such a formation of the diagnostic lights explained!

I have no chance to access the BIOS menue!!!

I tried several ways to gert an result:

Changing the (s-)ata ports on mainboard

Power on – power off

(un-)plug the harddrives

(un-)plug the usb devices

I am looking forward for your answers! Thank you in advance!!

Best Regards

Frank

Hi Frank, Just having an look at your manual HERE <ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell> . Have you tried cleaning your memory and card slots on your mobo, by blowing them out with compressed air. Then making sure there is nothing sticking to the gold areas of your cards and memory, then reseating them.

Hi Robin!

Thanks your your reply!

The hint to the manual and the error codes of the diagnostic lights did not help. The error code given to me is:

1 = green (permanent/solid)

2 = off

3 = off

4 = green (permanent/solid)

The above code is not shown in the manual. What does it mean? Any idea???

Thanks for your reply  in advance!!

Best Regards

Frank

Hi Frank, There is nothing in your manual as you say. But, in the past where trouble like this. has come up. memory moduls and cards should always be checked.

Hi Robin!

thanks for your help! I will have a try with your instructions and report here later.

I have found an explanation of the code in the german tech-support site of DELL.

code 1 - - 4 means a fatal motherboard error. they suggest a temporarily removal of the dimm bars. then you have to check the beep code after reinstalling them.

i will see!

best regards

frank

Hi!

Problem seems to be solved.

I tried it this way:

Clearing/Resetting CMOS Memory

Cleaning the memory modules

Clearing the slots of the memory/pci(e) cards

Now the PC is working fine as before the error. I hope the error is totally fixed.

Thanks for your help and answers here!

Best regerds
