Eric00886,
Optiplex 745 = PN416 Conroe E6700, 2.66GHz, 4MB, 1066FSB, B2
The Optiplex 745 E/C cannot run the above CPU.

Dear Chris,
Thanks for your help.
My Optiplex 745 is minitower and use D820 now. Is it the same with Optiplex 745 E/C?
I am confused: www.dfsdirectsales.com/.../dell_optiplex_745smt_pentium_dual_core_e6700_320_ghz_2_gb_ram_250_gb_hdd_dvdrw_32bit_windows_xp_home
This one seems can use E6700.
PS. Sorry for my poor English.

Their systems have Pentium D dual core NOT E6700 Dual Core.
Intel Pentium D 940 Dual core 3.2GHz 4M/800MHz SL95W
Presler
65 nm
Intel Pentium Dual-Core E6700 AT80571PH0882ML (BX80571E6700 / BXC80571E6700)
Microarchitecture Core
Wolfdale-3M
Core stepping R0 (SLGUF)
CPUID 1067A (SLGUF)
Manufacturing process 0.045 micron
Often Confused with
Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 - 2.66 GHz 4M Dual-Core Processor

Dear SpeedStep,
Optiplex 745 specific(www.google.com/url):『Intel® Core™ 2 Duo 1066MHz FSB Socket T with Dual Core technology XD, EM64T, 2MB and up to 4MB L2 cache, EIST and VT (E6000 series)』
I think 745 should support Core 2 Duo E6700, but I never try.

With a current bios I agree.
HOWEVER Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 is 2.66 GHz not the 3.2Ghz listed on the Site posted.
Intel® Dual Core™ D940 Presler
(2M Cache, 3.20 GHz, 800 MHz FSB)
Intel® Dual Core™ E6700 Wolfdale
(2M Cache, 3.20 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6700 Conroe
(4M Cache, 2.66 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
The 3.2 GHZ Dual Core E6700 (NOT A CORE 2 DUO) Does NOT WORK in a 745.
Thats why I believe its a DUAL CORE 3.2 Ghz Pentium D.
I don't have said system so I'm just noting a listing mistake.
The "E6700" is more than one kind of CPU.
The site says
Dell OptiPlex 745/SMT, Pentium Dual Core (E6700) 3.20 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 250 GB HDD, DVDRW, 32-bit Windows XP Home
The Dual Core E6700 is a 45nm CPU and NOT Compatible. So the name (E6700) is an error.
Its an SL95W
Processor core Presler
Manufacturing technology (micron) 0.065
Core voltage (V) 1.225 - 1.312
NOT AN
SLGUF
Manufacturing technology (micron) 0.045
Core voltage (V) 0.85 - 1.3625

Dear SpeedStep,
Very thanks for your kindly help. I even do not Intel has produced so much CPU model. Do you think is it a good idea to try Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6700 Conroe on Optiplex 745?
Thanks,
Have a good weekend!

Optipex 745 Tech Specs
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo 1066MHz FSB Socket T with Dual Core technology XD, EM64T, 2MB and up to 4MB L2 cache, EIST and VT (E6000 series)
Intel® Pentium® D 800MHz FSB Socket T with Dual Core technology XD, EM64T, 2x2MB L2 cache, EIST, and VT on 950/960 (900 series)
Intel® Pentium® D 800MHz FSB Socket T with Dual Core technology XD, EM64T, 2x1MB L2 cache (800 series)
Intel® Pentium® 4 800MHz FSB Socket T with HT, XD, EM64T, and 1MB L2 cache (500 series)
Intel® Celeron® D 533 MHz FSB Socket T with XD and EM64T (300 series)
This would lead me to believe that these work fine.
Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6700 (4M Cache, 2.66 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6600 (4M Cache, 2.40 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6420 (4M Cache, 2.13 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6400 (2M Cache, 2.13 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6320(4M Cache, 1.86 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6300 (2M Cache, 1.86 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
Chris M would have to say what processors were validated with the 745 since I'm only guessing.

Dear SPEEDSTEP,
Thanks for your help.
I also think "Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6700 (4M Cache, 2.66 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)" should can work and some 745 with E6700 on ebay...But in my case: My 745 with E6700...745 is very loudly and has nothing on screen; the screen is block and fan very quickly & loudly. I have update my 745 with new bios and my E6700 can work in my ASUS MB well.
That is why I am very confused.

They are not the same CPU. One is 65nm and one Is 45nm CPU. They are NOT interchangeable.
DUAL CORE IS NOT EQUAL TO CORE2 DUO.

Yes, I installed an E6700 in my Optiplex 745 Mini Tower. You must have BIOS version 2.6.4 or later, so if necessary, upgrade your BIOS before installing the new CPU.
