How do i transfer video from my camcorder to my pc?

Please help! I am not too tech savvy & have inherited a Canon Optura40/Optura30 camcorder. It has tapes that record the videos. I figured out how to record & play back the video on my Televison but, I do not know how to transfer the video to my pc. I have gone through 3- 100 page manuals but, I still cannot figure it out. I would like to be able to view the videos on my pc and if possible, copy them to cd/dvd. I have a Dell Dimension Desktop pc and am running Windows XP. I have a cd burner/writer but, don't think my pc is equipped with a dvd burner(not completely sure?) If ANYONE could help me to know how to put the video on my pc, I sure would apprecite it! The manual says that I should use DV Network Software & that should be included in Windows XP but, i do not see anything named that, unless it is under another name, I don't find it! Thanks to anyone for your response!

You'll need: 1.) Firewire card for you PC 2.) 6-pin to 4-pin Firewire cable if one wasn't included with your camcorder 3.) DVD burner May I suggest that if you are only wanting to do a straight transfer of the video from the miniDV tape to DVD-R without doing anything to them, that you buy a standalone DVD recorder. Something like these. This latter method is best for someone who is not as PC and tech saavy.
