I have 3 issues.

I have a dell inspiron 7459 and the first noticeable issue is with the fan noise, the CPU fan gets loud very quickly even when I'm not running heavy tasks, and the base of It seems to warm up quickly too, I tried disabling some services but it made no improvement.

I also cannot use the defrag option in Windows 10, it keeps on saying 'Optimization not available' and I have no idea how to fix it, plus it's also a solid state drive as the drive type.

The bootup is also strange too, there's usually a delay of around 10 seconds before the dell splashscreen or POST screen appears then boots normally, is there meant to be a delay before splashscreen or POST like this?

Any ideas to help with any of these 3 problems? I would appreciate it if someone helped me.

Thank you

Taran

Defrag and Optimize are used on sata hard drives, not solid state drives. SSD will handle the disk care automatically.

1.  pet hair and dust is causing overheating

2.  Defrag of an SSD destroys it

3. Delay would be memory testing.

1. I don't own a pet and I can't open the PC up because it's still in warrenty.

2. Are you sure because other people are still able to use Defrag even with an SSD to optimize performance?

3. I ran the diagnostics in the F12 boot options and ran a test and said there were no hardware issues and no memory issues.

(Opening to check memory etc does not void the warranty.)  You dont consider dust bunnies as pets but they are there and they do exist unless you reside in a hospital operating room and wear a bunny suit all the time.

Defrag of an SSD destroys it.   Optimize has to do with TRIM and is not related whatsoever to DEFRAG.

3. I ran the diagnostics in the F12 boot options and ran a test and said there were no hardware issues and no memory issues.

There isn't any way to bypass 20 to 30 seconds of POWER ON SELF TEST.Most pc's can take 1 or more MINUTES from power on to boot.

Do you only have an SSD or do you have both a hard drive and a 32-GB SSD drive that's an extra-cost option on the 7459? The 32-GB SSD is used as a cache for data Windows needs quickly.

If you have both, they're set up as a RAID array so the Windows 10 Defrag sees both as an SSD and refuses to run. And as Speedstep said, defragging an SSD will shorten its useful life.

So if you have a HDD and an SSD in a RAID array, you cannot defrag the HDD drive using Windows Defrag.

If it ain't broke, don't break it!
