MD5 checksum mismatch on R190918.exe download

I pinged my Dell tech contacts...

If the card reader is working correctly now, why do you need that firmware update?  Are you experiencing any of the 3 issues listed that this firmware update actually addresses?

And what version of Windows are you running? The file at your link may not support any OS beyond Vista 64-bit, so if you're running Win 7, 8.1 or 10, it might not even run.

And no offense intended, but are you sure you calculated the checksum correctly?

I have had issues with the card reader not working with some cards. Based on what others have written, it seems that the card reader (with pre-4.12 firmware) only handles cards up to 2 GB.

I am aware that the update utility is for Windows XP / Windows Vista and not for Windows 7, 8.1. or 10.

I'm pretty sure I calculated the MD5 checksum correctly. I even downloaded the file onto a Linux machine and used Linux's md5sum command. If you do a Google search on the checksum I calculated (23a750d9c86afe4e3b99f9876a7cd402), you'll find https://www.reasoncoresecurity.com/r190918.exe-b1470cab132ef96a2b49c97fa082d4b4d4371989.aspx. The http://www.softjie.com/drivers/dell-xps-420-teac-ca200-enhanced-191-card-reader-firmware-a01.html page also has the same MD5 checksum.

I'm experiencing issue #1.

The XPS 420 support page lists the TEAC CA-200 Enhanced 19-1 Card Reader, v.4.12, A01 firmware update with  checksum 269b456da804f8eee262703e9919b4f9 too.

Guess it's possible Dell posted the wrong checksum, though my tech contact didn't mention that as a possibility.  

You could take a gamble and try installing the Dell .exe, regardless of the checksum difference. But, it might fail and brick the card reader. Or you could download the file from softjie.com assuming you trust them not to install junk or malware, and their file has the same checksum you calculated.

Alternatively, you could buy a newer card reader to replace the existing one.

Non dell sites for drivers  routinely have files deliberately infected with malware.  This is also why they all claim malware free. You should ONLY download from DELL not a 3rd party site.
