Yes. Even though ASPI is technically a SCSI standard, the ASPI layer in Windows is used by any number of devices that are not SCSI, including CD-R/RW drives, DVD drives, and non-SCSI scanners.

Can you open MP3s in any program? It's more likely that your inability to write audio CDs is more related to your ASPI issues rather than the computer simply not recognizing the files at all.
