Inspiron N7110 Boot blank screen problem

Hi my Inspiron N7110 will power up and the screen will turn on.

But there is no boot up of windows or a dell logo. The screen is Lit black. The power button is lit and the fan is running.

Sometimes when I power on I try press esc and F8 this can cause the drive (I think ) to spin.

Thats it really no other things happen? The three lights on the right hand side of the keypad light up as they normally do on startup, the settings,spanner and screen buttons .

anyone have any ideas of trying to sort it out before I go checking warranty dates etc, thanks.
