Plz help! Dell studio Hard Drive question
I'm not very computer savvy and in need of help..... My hard drive went bad in my Dell Studio 1555 a week ago. After doing a lot research and going crossed eyed, I ordered a Western Digital Black 320 GB Mobile Hard Drive: 2.5 Inch, 7200 RPM, SATA II, 16 MB Cache WD3200BEKT. Can anyone please confirm that this hard drive will work for my laptop and if yes what do I need to do after I replace the bad one? (I still have all the disks from when the computer was purchased) This is my first post and I'm a little scared, the hard drive is being delivered tomorrow. Thank you in advance

Any standard 2.5" hard drive of 9.5 mm or 7 mm height will work fine.
If you're looking for the best in performance from a conventional drive, the Seagate Momentus XT (hybrid SSD-hard drive) is the one to get.

Ok sweetie, does this mean it will work on the dell studio? The current drive is a WD SATA 500gb, 5400rpm. I went with a 7200rpm in hopes for faster speed.

Hi Breeizme,
The Studio1555/15 system uses Serial-ATA (SATA) hard drives. The hard drive speeds offered at point of purchase are 5400 RPM and 7200 RPM, depending on the drive installed. The hard drive capacities are as follows:
SATA II is backward compatible so it would work on a SATA I connector. However, the data transfer speed would be same as of SATA I.
For installation of the hard drive, you may refer to the service manual of computer:
ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_laptop/esuprt_studio_laptop/studio-1555_Service%20Manual_en-us.pdf
Please ensure to follow the safety instructions in manual.
After installation of hard drive, you would need to re-install Operating system and drivers on it. For more information on Operating system re-installation, you may refer to link: http://dell.to/Qe7jyP
To know the installation of drivers in correct order, you may refer to link: http://dell.to/tIauHN
