Installing Ubuntu on XPS 9315

It's probably too late, but as some might find this post and wants an answer:

My original thought was, the Dell XPS 9315 is Ubuntu certified, so it should just work. However, the hardware (Intel side of it) needs drivers not shipped with stock Linux distributions. Thus, some even recommend avoiding the chipset [1]. Turns, our, Dell got the certificate by shipping non-standard drivers with the custom installation image [2]. This will install Ubuntu 20.04. This version works like charm if you can live with outdated software. Updating to 22.04 mostly works but needs some adjustments, i.e. the display server needs to be set to Xorg instead of the new standard Wayland [3], also the Webcam will not work in some Apps.

Currently, I am quite content with my XPS 9315 running Ubuntu 22.04.
