Touchpad

The latest touchpad driver is a step in the right direction, but it still has some serious issues that need to be addressed.

Using the default settings, I found my palms would cause the cursor to jump around when I typed - even though "Disable touchpad while typing" is enabled by default. Disabling mouse clicks with touchpad *should* solve the problem, but it does not, because touch clicks still work on the buttons at the bottom of the touchpad and that happens to be where my palms rest.

Obviously, the palm/typing detection needs to be improved, but more importantly, disabling touchpad mouse clicks should disabled them on the *entire* touchpad.

Sorry for the delay in response doubleo2.  I have forwarded the information to the Sputnik team to try and get an answer to your issue.

Cy,

Have you made any progress on this?

Enrico, Barton tweeted about some progress being made as part of the Sputnik PPA, but I don't believe I've seen any kernel updates in the last day or so that would include any fixes yet.

Are you referring to this tweet? twitter.com/.../245209465694076930

That's not new. Furkan made the latest Cyprus driver from June available to people running Fedora. bartongeorge.net/.../sputnik-update-touchpad-driver-now-available Everybody running the Sputnik flavor of Ubuntu got that driver as soon as it was released.

doubleo2 - The issue was forwarded to the team and I see that it has been entered into the bug reporting tool as well.  Sorry that I do not have anything new to report.

Guys I have attached a patch to that bug report (bugs.launchpad.net/.../1048816). If you're comfortable compiling the module yourself it should fix the button-zone-tapping issues. Let me know if you need any help!

By the way... it would be nice to officially have someone else confirm this issue with a comment in Launchpad so the bug status can be changed away from new = "not looked at yet." @doubleo2?

This patch has been pulled into Kamal's kernel-- it should be in an update if you're using the Sputnik PPA. That guy moves fast.

Is the patch supposed to be in 3.2.0-31-generic? I've installed all the latest updated, but after rebooting I can still click with the bottom of my touchpad. I thought enabling and re-disabling tap to click might help, but it did not.

Sent from my tap to the bottom of the touchpad.

Sorry doubleo2, sounds like Launchpad is having some build issues. It'll be out soon!

There. I believe you should be able to get it in an update soon-- kamal8.

EDIT: Here's the release building in Launchpad: https://launchpad.net/~canonical-hwe-team/+archive/sputnik-kernel/+build/3802180 . When it's done you should be able to update.
